Is table salt (sodium chloride) alive?

According to my bio. teacher, all the foods we eat are alive because we eat for the lipids, carbohydrates, and proteins and all living things have those. According to my research, salt doesn't have any of those three characteristics. Is it alive? Was my teacher wrong?
